macOS 15 or later · Spotify, Apple Music, and a Pomodoro

Your music, one quiet line.

A Spotify bar, an Apple Music bar, and a Pomodoro timer for your Mac. Your song stays on screen. The bar colors in, green to red, while you work.

One-time purchase. No account. Works with the Spotify and Music apps you already have.

Everything you reach for. Nothing you don't.

Skip a song without switching to the Spotify or Music window. Topline keeps the controls in one line, then gets out of the way.

Snaps to the top like a magnet

Drag it anywhere. Bring it near the top of any display and it locks in full width with a little tap you can feel. Drop it anywhere else and it floats as a rounded bar.

Every control

Play, pause, skip, shuffle, repeat, a stretchy scrubber, and volume, for both Spotify and Apple Music.

Any speaker, one click

AirPods, studio monitors, your display's speakers or AirPlay. Pick it right from the bar.

Like it, keep it

With Apple Music, favorite the song or start any playlist without leaving the work. Spotify playback sits on the same bar, and it does not ask you to log in.

Takes on your album art

The bar slowly shifts to the colors of whatever's playing. Quiet enough to ignore. Pretty enough not to want to.

A Pomodoro timer that turns the bar red.

Click the timer on the left of the bar. Topline starts a focus session, from 5 to 90 minutes, and the whole bar starts green and slowly turns yellow, then red, as time runs down. The controls step back. The clock takes over. Your music keeps playing.

25:00

Then a chime, and a five-minute break. Whatever is playing keeps playing. Drag the timer sideways, or scroll on it, to set the length in steps of 5. Topline remembers what you pick. It starts at 25 minutes.

Right-click the bar and open Focus Stats. You get minutes today, sessions finished, a day streak, the hour you focus most, and a chart of the week. A session under a minute is ignored, so a mis-click does not count.

How the Pomodoro timer works

A Spotify bar and an Apple Music bar.

Topline follows the Spotify app or the Music app, whichever is playing. Open one, press play, and the song is on the bar within a second. There is no Topline account.

Spotify

Play, pause, previous, next, shuffle, repeat, seek, and volume go straight to the Spotify app on your Mac. Drop the bar near the top of a display and it stays there, full width, including when you switch Spaces.

There is no Spotify login inside Topline. The Mac App Store version does not connect a Spotify account. Spotify only allows a few users on an unapproved app, so likes and Spotify playlists stay out of the store version. Playback does not need them.

What Topline does for the searches it is built around
SearchWhat you get
Pomodoro timerClick the left side of the bar. 5 to 90 minutes, then a chime and a 5-minute break. The bar stays red while you focus.
Spotify barThe song, the scrubber, and the volume for the Spotify app, in a strip under the menu bar. No Spotify login.
Apple Music barThat same strip for the Music app, including favorites, your playlists, and AirPlay.
ADHD focus timerA timer wide enough to see, music controls that do not open another window, and a break that ends by itself.
Keyboard clickerA mechanical klack for every key, in nine switch styles, from a deep thock to a typewriter. It does not record what you type.
Focus soundscapeA coffee shop, rain, ocean, or a wordless loop, on the bar. Studies measured creative tests and stress recovery, not a guaranteed percent of a workday.

For focus that wanders off.

People looking for an ADHD Pomodoro timer tend to want a clock they can see, music they can change without opening another app, and a break that ends by itself. Topline is those three, on one bar.

  1. The timer is the bar

During a session the whole strip slides from green to red, with a soft glow every so often. If a window needs that space, the bar shrinks to a line and the countdown keeps going in the menu bar. Click it to bring the bar back. Right-click and turn on Always Show Bar when you want the full strip to stay.

  2. Changing the song is where the session goes

Opening Spotify to skip is how a work block turns into twelve minutes of playlists. The controls are already on the bar, for Spotify and for Apple Music, so the document can stay where it is.

  3. The break is five minutes, then it stops

You do not pick the break length, and you do not have to remember to come back. A second chime marks the end. The music keeps playing.

On days when lyrics take the sentence you were writing, Undertone is sound with no words: Deep, Drift, Rain, and Glow, a place such as a coffee shop, rain, or a fireplace, a binaural tone (Focus, Calm, Drift) for headphones, or brown or white noise. You start it yourself. The timer leaves it alone.

Topline is a timer and a music bar. It is not a treatment, a therapy, or a way to diagnose anything.

Using Topline when attention wanders

A keyboard clicker, on the same bar.

Turn on key sounds and every key on your Mac gets a mechanical klack, in whatever app you are typing. Nine switch styles. Space, return, and delete each have their own sound. It is marked beta, and it stays off until you ask for it in Settings.

Topline does not record what you type. It only notes whether the key was a letter, space, return, or delete, so it can pick a sound. macOS asks for Input Monitoring. Nothing is saved or sent.

Hear the keyboard clicker

At 70 decibels, the ideas showed up.

A quiet room is not a free room. In five experiments, noise about as loud as a busy coffee shop helped people on creative problems. Louder than that, it hurt. Undertone is that middle, on the bar: a coffee shop, rain, an ocean, a fire, and slow loops with no words to take the sentence you are writing.

You start it. The timer leaves it alone. Try one. It plays in the bar up top. The studies, and the limits of them, are spelled out beside the sounds.

What the research actually measured

Light enough to forget it's running.

~0.3%CPU while music plays. The animation is handled by macOS, not the app.
44pttall. About the height of your menu bar twice over.

What is Topline?

Topline is a Mac app that puts Spotify or Apple Music in a thin bar across the top of the screen, and puts a Pomodoro timer on that same bar. It costs $4.99 once and runs on macOS 15 or later. There is no subscription and no Topline account.

Is Topline a Pomodoro timer?

Yes. Click the timer on the left of the bar to start a focus session. You can set it from 5 to 90 minutes, in steps of 5. It starts at 25 and remembers your length. The bar shifts from green to yellow to red as the session runs, with a soft glow now and then. When time is up, a chime plays and a 5-minute break starts. Whatever you're listening to keeps playing; the timer never touches your music.

Does Topline work with Spotify?

Yes. Topline controls the Spotify app on your Mac: play, pause, previous, next, shuffle, repeat, seek, and volume. Open Spotify, play a song, and the bar shows it within a second. You do not log in to Spotify inside Topline. The Mac App Store version has no Spotify account connection, because Spotify only allows a few users on an unapproved app.

Does Topline work with Apple Music?

Yes. Topline controls the Music app: play, pause, skip, scrub, volume, shuffle, repeat, favorites, and your playlists. Speaker choice, including AirPlay, is on the bar. You stay signed in to Music. You do not sign in to Apple inside Topline.

Can I use Topline as an ADHD focus timer?

Yes, if what you need is a timer you can see, music controls that do not make you switch apps, and a break that ends on its own. While you focus, the bar shifts from green to red as time runs down. If a window covers it, the countdown moves to the menu bar in red, and Always Show Bar keeps the full strip up. Topline is not a medical treatment, a therapy, or a diagnostic tool.

Does the Pomodoro timer work with no music playing?

Yes. You can focus in silence, or play Undertone: Deep, Drift, Rain, and Glow, or a place such as a coffee shop, rain, or a fireplace. The timer does not start or stop that sound. Key sounds, if you turn them on, keep going too.

Do focus sounds increase productivity by a set percent?

No. Experiments found that moderate noise, about 70 decibels, helped people on creative problems, and that louder noise hurt. Nature soundscapes helped a lab measure of directed attention, and a nature sound sped recovery after a stressful task. None of that is a fixed percent of a workday, and Topline does not promise one. Undertone is a coffee shop, rain, an ocean, a fire, and slow loops with no words. You start it yourself. The timer leaves it alone.

How long is a session, and where do the stats go?

A session is 5 to 90 minutes. The break is 5 minutes. Topline stores sessions longer than a minute on your Mac and shows minutes today, finished sessions, a day streak, your most focused hour, and a chart of the week. Nothing is uploaded.

How much does Topline cost, and what does it run on?

$4.99 once, on the Mac App Store, with free updates. It needs macOS 15 or later. It does not run on iPhone, iPad, or Windows.

How do I show, hide, or move the bar?

Press Control-Option-Command-S to show or hide it. Drag any empty part of the bar. Near the top of a display it snaps to full width. Anywhere else it floats, with rounded corners. Right-click and choose Reset Position to put it back at the top of the main screen. Quit from that same menu.

How is Topline different from a menu bar music app?

Topline is a strip about 44 points tall under the menu bar, with the song, the scrubber, the volume, and the timer visible without a click. When a window needs that space, the strip shrinks to a line and those details move into the menu bar. Control-Option-Command-S hides the bar completely.

Does Topline have a keyboard clicker?

Yes. Right-click the bar, open Settings, and turn on Show key sounds on the bar. A keyboard button appears at the right end. Click it and every key you press, in any app, plays a mechanical klack. There are nine styles: Cream, Clicky Blue, Deep Thock, Topre, Muffled Topre, Felt, Typewriter, Laptop, and Silent. It is marked beta, and it stays off until you turn it on.

Does the keyboard sound record what I type?

No. Topline listens only for the kind of key: a letter, space, return, or delete. It uses that to pick a sound. The letters are not saved, logged, or sent. macOS asks you to allow Input Monitoring before the sounds can play.

One price. Yours for good.
