Pomodoro alternatives for Mac

If you want a timer, several apps do that job better than Topline, and some of them are free. Topline's timer is a clock on a music bar: Spotify or Apple Music on the same strip, 5 to 90 minutes, then a break that is always 5. It does not block websites, it has no task list, and it does not have an iPhone app. Buy the other app when that is what you needed.

If you typed poral

There is no product by that exact name that this page could find. The close one is PoroTimer. It is a Mac menu-bar timer, free to download, macOS 14.6 or later. The App Store listing shows Pro at $2.99 once. Pro adds custom focus and break lengths, a peak-time chart, and tag stats. You can label a session coding, design, study, or writing. The listing says the data stays on the Mac, with no account.

PoroTimer's listing does not mention Spotify, Apple Music, or keyboard sounds. Topline has no work-type tags. Topline's Focus Stats window shows minutes today, finished sessions, a streak, the best hour after at least three sessions, and a 7-day chart. Sessions under a minute are not saved. If the chart and the tags are the product, PoroTimer is the cheaper and more specific buy.

The other name in that neighborhood is Pomotto. Its site says free to try, $2.99 once for Pro, no account. Starting the timer turns on Do Not Disturb, and it can play rain or a café that stops when the break starts. Lengths run from 1 to 99 minutes, so the break is not stuck at 5. Topline's timer does not change Do Not Disturb, and it does not start or stop any audio. Undertone is a separate button.

The timers people already use

Session is a focus timer for Mac, iPhone, and iPad, from Translucent. The free plan covers sessions. Pro is where the Mac website and app blocking lives, along with the longer history and sync. October 2026 roundups put Pro near $4.99 a month or $39.99 a year. Confirm that on Session's site or the store before you treat it as the bill. Topline does not block a browser, does not mute Slack, and does not sync to a phone.

Flow, from Yugen, is a timer for Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. The basic timer is free, with no account. Pro adds app and website blocking. A US App Store listing for Flow shows a monthly plan at $2.99, a yearly plan at $17.99, and lifetime access at $39.99, and it requires macOS 15 or later. Other storefronts show other numbers. Topline's bar is the difference, not a prettier timer.

Be Focused, by Denys Ievenko, is the long-running task timer: a list of tasks, an estimate of how many intervals each needs, and reports. It runs on Mac, iPhone, and iPad. The free version is usable. Pro is paid. Two October 2026 roundups did not agree on that price, so this page will not pick one. Check the App Store listing. Topline has no task list.

TomatoBar is free, open source, MIT licensed, and lives in the menu bar. Configurable work and rest, a hotkey, notifications, and a JSON log of timer events. Version 3.6.1 shipped in February 2026. It is not on the Mac App Store. Homebrew's cask was disabled on September 1, 2026 over a Gatekeeper check, so the GitHub release is the safer download. It does not play your Spotify library. If you wanted a free countdown and nothing else, stop here.

PoroTimer You want tags and a peak-hour chart in the menu bar. Free. Pro $2.99 once on the listing. No work tags. Stats are coarser.
Pomotto The timer should silence notifications, and the break length should be yours. Free to try. Pro $2.99 once, on Pomotto's site. Break is always 5 minutes. No Do Not Disturb switch.
Session You want to block sites and apps, and carry the session to an iPhone. Free tier. Pro cited around $4.99 a month or $39.99 a year in October 2026. No blocking. No iPhone app.
Flow You want a polished free timer, blocking on Pro, and a watch. Free tier. One US listing: $2.99 a month, $17.99 a year, $39.99 lifetime. No blocking, no watch, no phone.
Be Focused The timer should sit on a task list. Free to start. Pro is paid. Confirm the store price. No tasks.
TomatoBar You want a free menu-bar countdown and you will install it yourself. Free. Open source. You would be paying $4.99 for a clock.
Topline The song in Spotify or Apple Music should stay on screen, and the timer can live on that same bar. $4.99 once. Mac App Store listing not up yet. macOS 15 or later. The music bar is the point. The timer alone is not.

Checked October 29, 2026. Session's dollar figures come from roundups that month, not from a price tag this page could quote off Session's own terms. Flow's three numbers are from a US App Store listing and can differ by country. PoroTimer's $2.99 is from its App Store listing. Pomotto's $2.99 is from pomotto.app. Prices move.

What Topline's timer will not do

Click the timer. Drag or scroll to set 5 to 90 minutes, in steps of 5. It starts at 25 and remembers. At zero, a chime plays and a 5-minute break starts. A second chime ends the break. Music keeps playing through both, unless you separately started Undertone, which pauses Spotify or Music while that sound plays. The timer never starts Undertone, and it never starts a playlist.

There is no website block, no app block, no task, no project, no tag, no iPhone, no iPad, no watch. Focus stats stay in a local file. Right-click the bar, Focus Stats.

The reason to buy it is the rest of the bar. The song, the scrubber, the volume, and the speakers, including AirPlay, sit next to that clock. Spotify and Apple Music each have their own page, because those controls are the product. Keyboard sounds are a separate, optional feature, and Klack is better if that is all you wanted. Endel is a different kind of sound app, not a timer with a lower price.

Questions

Is there an app called Poral?

Not one this page could find. Poral is the spelling people use when they mean PoroTimer, a free Mac menu-bar timer with a $2.99 Pro unlock. Pomotto is the other close name: a Mac timer, $2.99 once for Pro, that can turn on Do Not Disturb and play rain or a café. If you meant a different app, the rest of this page still compares the timers people actually buy.

What is a good PoroTimer alternative?

If you want a menu-bar timer with work tags and a peak-hour chart, PoroTimer is built for that, and Pro is $2.99 once on its App Store listing. Topline's stats are minutes, finished sessions, a streak, a best hour after three sessions, and a 7-day chart. Topline has no work-type tags. It does put Spotify or Apple Music on the same bar, which PoroTimer's listing does not mention.

What if I only want a free Pomodoro timer?

Use TomatoBar, which is free and open source, or the free tier of Session, Flow, or Be Focused. Topline costs $4.99 because the timer comes with the music bar. Paying for Topline to get a timer alone is the wrong purchase.

Does Topline block websites during a session?

No. Session and Flow sell website and app blocking on their paid plans, and Be Focused does too. Topline does not block sites, apps, or Slack. It shows the song and the time. If blocking is the feature you came for, buy one of those.
